Serger Technique Club

If you love your serger for making garment and other projects easier and neater but want to know how to use its potential for decorative stitching, join us for new techniques each month to do just that! Whether your machine is new or much loved, we can have fun and learn together by making different projects using the full range of stitches sergers provide.

We make a variety of projects that are largely influenced by student interest. If there is a technique or item you'd like to learn, let Amberly know!

Most projects will not be completed in class, but the techniques will be demonstrated and practiced so you understand how to recreate it at home.

April 26th - Serger Dust Cover - A cute and simple cover to keep your serger tidy! We will make pintucks, faux piping, fusible binding, and do some decorative stitching with our chain stitch if your machine has it! The pattern from Sookie Sews can be purchased in the store, you will provide your own fabric and threads. A blindstitch presser foot  is recommended in addition to the ones that normally come with the serger.

May 24th - Couch Caddy* - An accessory everyone needs to keep track of all the bits and bobs we need when sitting on the couch or in our favorite chair! We will learn how to insert piping, use chain and coverstitches for decoration, and use a narrow coverstitch to bind the edges. A clear foot, 5mm piping foot, and a 36mm double-fold bias binder will be used for this class. The pattern from Sookie Sews can be purchased in the store, you will provide your own fabric and threads.

June 28th - Argyle notebook cover* - Who else has notebooks EVERYWHERE?!? I know I do, an notebook for this, and a notebook for that, and a notebook to keep track of my notebooks....  We will learn one-step piping, make grids for our argyle, and make built-in bookmarks and pen holders. You will need a 5mm piping foot for this class. The pattern from Sookie Sews can be purchased in the store, you will provide your own fabric and threads.

July 26th - Christmas In July! Candy Cane Table Runner & Napkins* - We will learn coverstitch applique, how to use our chainstitch for decorative purposes, apply piping around curves, and make rolled hems beautifully! You will need a 5mm piping foot and an clear foot would be very helpful, though isn't required, for this class. The pattern from Sookie Sews can be purchased in the store, you will provide your own fabric and threads.

August 23rd - TBD
September 27th - TBD
October 25th - TBD
November 22nd - TBD
December 27th - TBD

You will need to bring your serger or combo/coverstitch machine in good working order (serviced in the last year or so), the stitch card, and manual if it is not a current Baby Lock, Bernina, or Bernette. Don't forget the power cord and foot pedal. Be sure you know how to thread the loopers. For some projects/techniques specialty feet can be helpful, those will be listed above and in the email you will receive approximately a week before Club.

Some projects require a pattern purchase, we will have those available when you register for Club. Fabric is available for you to purchase.  Participants will receive a 10% discount on patterns and supplies for each project.

* - indicates the necessity of a cover or chain stitch to complete the project as written, though Amberly will have tips on how to use other stitches to create the look if you do not have a machine that will do these stitches
