Beginning Collage Quilting

Join Julene as she guides you through creating your very own Collage Quilt! In this class you will be introduced to color theory, and how to place fabric pieces to create texture and movement for your piece. You will use Free Motion Quilting techniques to add texture to the collage. Please note, this class assumes the student has intermediate Free Motion Quilting techniques experience and that you have a machine that is capable of Free Motion Quilting. If you aren't sure, give us a call and we will help you. 

Day 1 - 4 hours (NO machine this day)
Introduction of Color Theory
Set up foam board, felt, parchment paper and photograph
Prepare fabric with steam-a-seam
Cut fabric pieces and design bird
Add bird to background fabric
Snacks and your favorite beverage (we do have coffee!)

Day 2 - 4 hours (Bring your machine)
Create quilt sandwich
Free motion quilt textures and designs
Apply final backing
Create and apply binding, time permitting
Snacks and your favorite beverage (we do have coffee!)

We will have one longarm quilting machine available to try out on Day 2.

Required Kit:  $19.25
Variety of fabrics to create focal piece
FQ Batting, Muslin and Final backing
1/2 yard Steam-a-Seam
Photo template

What to bring on Day 1
Small handheld iron and pressing mat
Foam board (20" x 20") covered with white felt
Small, very sharp scissors 
Tweezers
Parchment Paper (15")
Project bag for organizing - large zip lock works well
Straight Pins
Pencil or ink pen

What to bring on Day 2
Thread to match project colors
Sewing machine (power cords, foot control) with free motion quilting foot
Universal or Quilting Needles Size 80 or 90
