Vintage Style Quilted Jacket



Make a Quilted Jacket with Leigh Ann and Kathleen 
     (CLASS MAY BE FULL! CALL TO DISCUSS!)


In this 3-part class, you will create an oversized vintage style quilted jacket. This class assumes the student has basic sewing skills and basic pattern reading skills.  This class is best for a confident beginner/intermediate sewist. This project will require some sewing at home. 

Leigh Ann and Kathleen have been creative partners for years and have extensive experience in creating gorgeous projects!  They are both delighted to lead this class!

Class 1  (1 hour - no machine needed)
Introduction to the process and pattern.
Discuss quilt selection and pattern layout.  If you already have one you want to use, bring it with you to this class. 
     HINT:  Yes, you can use a "wholecloth quilt" you make just for this purpose! 
Discuss batting and backing options.
Trace patterns
Discuss making a muslin
HOMEWORK: 
    Cut and sew muslin
    Finalize quilt choice

Class 2  (2 hours - bring your machine)
Fit muslin form.
Alter pattern, if necessary.
Cut pattern pieces from quilt.
Sew pieces and check fit. Only 4 seams to stitch!)

Class 3 (3 hours - bring your machine)
Create and apply pockets, if desired.
Make bias binding and apply.
Add closures, if desired.

SUPPLIES
Quilt at least 67 x 78 inches with relatively thin batting, no thick batting. The quilt does not need to have binding because we will be cutting it up.
One 4 yard cut of quilting cotton fabric for making the muslin.  
One 2 1/4 yard cut of Pellon Easy Pattern for tracing the pattern
3/4 yard quilting cotton for jacket binding
Sewing machine in good working order. 
    PLEASE NOTE: This project requires sewing through thick layers and is not suitable for light-weight machines.  
A walking foot is recommended.
3/4" bias tape maker is recommended.
Notebook/pen/pencil.
Extension table for sewing machine if you have one.
SNACKS.  This class will start promptly at 10:30 and will end at 1:30, so bring some snacks!!

Other basic sewing supplies: paper and fabric shears, snips, jeans needle (90 or 100), coordinating thread to match quilt and binding, pins and clips (heavy duty), water soluble maker and any other favorite notions.

Additional supplies may be needed.  Check back with us a week or so before class to see if there are any updates.

COST:  $99 - This is an introductory price for all three sessions.  Future quilted jacket classes will be $150.  Please, NO REFUNDS, unless we are able to fill your spot.
DATES:  July 7th, August 4th, and September 1st.  
CLASS TIMES: Class starts promptly at 10:30.  Please arrive no later than 10:15.  
CLASS SIZE:  Limited to 6 students. Ask about a wait list if the class is full.
